I was also refused support from two of the top visa agents as they said my case was complicated and very unlikely... so did it all myself. For anyone else in this position, you have to take the gamble and do the court application and visa simultaneously. You won't get court approval without being in the visa process and you can't get your visa without courts approval. It's a gamble and it's costly but worth it! 189 granted after 4 years in Australia In March 2022 I came to do my PhD. Completed PhD in April 2025, applied for 485 and also invited for 189 in 2025. Occupation; Environmental Research Scientist While doing PhD I started full time work in the same field. At night did my papers for publications and worked during the day. Gained 2 years of AU work experience while studying. I used my MSc and AU experience to get positive skill assessment from Vetessass. EOI invited in November 2025 (95 points) Lodged in November 2025 Feb 2026 got 1st s56 for police report March 2026 got 2nd s56 for new borns passport 7th April 2026 visa granted for family of four. From Start to finish - student visa, vetessass, 485 visa, 189 EOI and visa lodgement was done by me. Just kept watching videos, facebook groups helped. Started in March 2022 finished/ PR in April 2026, ~4 years of hard work and dedication.

@gregormendel I have noticed everytime I come closer to my timeline for visa grants suddenly timeline goes up. As previously it was 10 months 22 days for retail pharmacist occupation and my waiting time as of today is 9 months 11 days. Now i can see today’s grants is within one year or 11 months and some days. Which is very frustrating being an offshore without any job. Waiting time is going up everytime. I have no clue now when can i expect my grant as i can see on Immi account my status is still received and haven’t received any s56 or any other request. Proactively submitted my all Pcc and medical and other supporting documents. I am so disappointed with this time frame. Could you guide or provide me any idea when can i get my grant?

189 granted today onshore Invitation- 21 August 2025 Visa lodgement- 3 October Medicals- 21 October Visa grant- 7 April (Today) Skill- ECT (Graduate diploma from SouthernCross University) Never worked in childcare (only did 2 month placements). No job experience was claimed. Age- 30 English- 20 Australia study- 20 (15+5) Regional study- 5 NAATI- 5 Partner- 5 Total- 85 points To new applicants my advice is if you can’t accumulate 90 points for 189 then please reconsider your decision to do this course. And accumulating 90 points is not going to be easy. As per official statistics even 85 points is no longer considered safe for a 189 PR grant.
