-
The WA ICT Business Analyst grant recipient did not claim regional study points despite studying in regional WA, as they spent the first 2 weeks of their course in Melbourne. Their agent advised playing it safe rather than risking the claim.

FY2026-27 NT Skilled Migration Program Update
The NT Government has received full allocations for the 2026-27 program year from the Australian Government. The NT nomination application opens on 21 August 2026 to new applications for all onshore and selected offshore streams. Before applying, please ensure that you have reviewed the eligibility criteria for your stream. Please note that criteria has been updated for the new program year. For information on how to submit an application, view how to apply.
Please note that NT Government cannot guarantee nominations before visa deadlines. Those who are onshore and have visas expiring should seek professional advice from a Registered Migration Agent or Legal Practitioner on their visa options and ensure that they remain lawful in Australia.
NT OFFSHORE Priority Occupation stream The NT Government has a large number of applications pending assessment under the NT Priority Occupation stream, held over from the last program year. As a result, this stream is closed to new applications, and any changes will be published on this website.

TAS Processing Times and Invitations Issued
Data on processing times, ROIs and nomination applications Last updated on 20/08/2026 Migration Tasmania has now opened for the 2026-27 program year.
ROIs invited to apply for nomination on 20/08/2026:
Subclass 190 - 67 invitations - 65 Gold invitations and two Green invitations Subclass 491 - 26 invitations - Three Gold invitations and 23 further invitations Due to the high number of Gold pass ROIs received for subclass 190, few additional ROIs have been invited. We expect the number of Gold pass ROIs to decrease significantly over the coming weeks, which will allow us to issue a larger number of invitations.
The lowest scores invited:
Subclass 190 - 580 points Subclass 491 - 97 points
Number of ROIs on hand (ROIs with a status of Submitted after the invitation round has taken place):
Subclass 190 - 539 ROIs Subclass 491 - 810 ROIs
Nomination places available:
Subclass 190 - 1,084 places Subclass 491 - 754 places
Nomination applications lodged but not yet decided:
Subclass 190 - 18 applications Subclass 491 - 2 applications
Invitations issued but application not yet lodged:
Subclass 190 - 43 invitations Subclass 491 - 25 invitations
Oldest nomination application lodged and not yet allocated to a case officer - 19/08/2026
Lowest point score required to gain nomination (at assessment):
Subclass 190 - 580 points Subclass 491 - 97 points
This is a rolling three-month average of the lowest point score resulting in an invitation.
Where an ROI is invited and all priority attributes claimed are verified, nomination will be approved. If one or more priority attributes are not verified, and the point score falls below the lowest score threshold, the application will be declined.
Where candidates are found to have intentionally claimed priority attributes to artificially inflate their score, the application will be declined.
Any Gold pass holder that does not meet the Gold priority attribute will be declined, regardless of their total point score.

News and Updates
NT 491 Offshore Nomination Refusals: Multiple pending offshore NT 491 nomination applications were refused on 17 August 2026 despite all documents being accepted. The official refusal reason cited was failure to demonstrate "genuine commitment to living and working in the Northern Territory on a long-term basis." However, oversubscription appears to be the underlying factor, with the NT Government applying a highly competitive assessment process due to limited nomination places. The decision is final with no appeal process. NT charges a non-refundable $300 application fee upfront.
Points Test Reform Expected March 2027 (UNOFFICIAL - to be confirmed): Information shared at the Migration Institute of Australia (MIA) conference in Perth WA indicates that the points test for subclasses 189, 190, and 491 is expected to change in March 2027. DHA representatives were present at the conference. Reforms will focus on Education, Work Experience, and Age points. Further details are not yet available.

S56 Trends
No S56 requests were reported for 11 August 2026.
Invitation Activity
No invitation round data was reported for this period.
Trends and Patterns
Visa Processing Times
All grants reported today were for Subclass 190 visas, with processing times ranging from approximately 2 months to 2.5 months from visa lodgement to grant. Three of the four grants were direct grants (no S56 requests), while one applicant received an S56 request for medicals shortly after lodgement.
The Registered Nurse grant (priority occupation) was processed in approximately 2.5 months, while non-priority occupations (Civil Engineer, Analyst Programmer, Quantity Surveyor) were processed in approximately 2 months. This suggests relatively consistent processing times across both priority and non-priority occupations during this period.
State Activity
Queensland and Victoria were the active states for grants today. Queensland granted visas to a Registered Nurse (65+5 points) and a Civil Engineer (100 points), while Victoria granted visas to an Analyst Programmer (85 points) and a Quantity Surveyor.
Points and Pathways
The Civil Engineer case demonstrates the complexity of skilled migration pathways. Despite holding 100 points for Subclass 189 since July 2025 (later 105 points), the applicant did not receive a 189 invitation due to lack of Civil Engineer invitations in August 2025 and November 2025 rounds. The applicant successfully pivoted to the 190 pathway through Queensland nomination.
The Analyst Programmer was granted with 85 points, while the Registered Nurse held 65+5 points. This highlights the varying points requirements across different occupations and states.
Family Composition
One grant involved a family of four (Registered Nurse case), demonstrating that family size does not appear to significantly impact processing times when all documentation is in order.

Trends and Patterns in S56 Requests
The day saw a mix of S56 requests, primarily for health-related documentation. Polio vaccination requests appeared for both 491 visa applicants. One TAS 190 applicant received an S56 for PCC despite having already submitted it, with the grant following 28 days after resubmission. A VIC 190 applicant received a medicals request and was granted within 14 days of compliance. The pattern suggests that S56 requests for health documentation (Polio, Medicals) and PCC remain common across different visa subclasses and states.
Priority occupation grants (Architect, Registered Nurse, Early Childhood Teacher, Enrolled Nurse) showed processing times ranging from 2 months to 5 months. Non-priority occupations showed more varied processing times, with one VIC Mechanical Engineer case taking approximately 19 months from lodgement to grant. NSW 190 grants dominated the day's activity, with processing times for recent lodgements (June 2026) completing in approximately 2 months. The offshore NSW 491 Social Worker case showed a processing time of approximately 14 months.
Several applicants noted DIY approaches and no Form 80 submissions, with successful outcomes. Points ranged from 75 to 90 (including state nomination points), with most successful applicants holding 85-90 points.

Trends and Patterns in S56 Requests
Only one S56 request was documented today for a NSW 190 Motor Mechanic application. The request was issued on 03 July 2026 for work experience documentation, superannuation records, AFP check, and PCC. The applicant submitted all requested documents on 15 July 2026, with the visa granted on 06 August 2026.
For the remaining four visa grants reported today, S56 status is unknownโapplicants either did not receive S56 requests or did not share this information.
Processing Time Observations
Priority Occupations (Health): Three grants were reported for priority health occupations (Registered Nurse NEC, Registered Nurse Medical, and Pharmacy Technician). These applications demonstrated significantly faster processing times ranging from approximately 1.5 to 2.5 months from lodgement to grant, consistent with expedited processing under Ministerial Direction 105.
Non-Priority Occupations: The Motor Mechanic application (NSW 190) took approximately 16 months from lodgement to grant, including an S56 request. The Geotechnical Engineer application (VIC 190) processed in approximately 2 months with no reported S56.
The Motor Mechanic grant is particularly noteworthy, representing the culmination of an 8-year migration journey with 95 points including NAATI, Australian work experience, and Australian qualifications.

FY2026-27 Tasmanian Skilled Migration State Nomination Program
As published by TAS Migration: The Tasmanian Skilled Migration State Nomination Program will open to new ROIs on 17 August 2026. Some changes to priority attributes for selection will apply. Full details of nomination requirements and priority attributes are on our website. A detailed summary of the key changes can be found here.
Tasmania has now received a total 2,050 nomination allocations for the 2026-27 program year. This comprises: 1,250 nomination places for subclass 190 800 nomination places for subclass 491.
Invitations to apply for nomination
Migration Tasmania will commence weekly invitations to apply for nomination from Thursday 20 August 2026. Invitations will be issued progressively throughout the year to ensure places remain available across the program year. Information will be posted on the Migration Tasmania website every week detailing: - the number of Registrations of Interest (ROIs) invited to apply for nomination - the lowest scores invited - nomination places available - number of ROIs on hand.
It will also show the lowest ROI score you would need to get a nomination at time of processing. This number is based on the average of the lowest scores invited over the past three months. If, during assessment, any of the selected priority attributes are not met and the applicantโs score falls below this published threeโmonth average, the nomination will not be approved.
Program Changes and New Features
After reviewing program results and listening to stakeholder feedback, weโve made some updates to the priority attributes, selection policy and program guidance. These changes are designed to better match our nomination priorities, make it easier for applicants to choose the right attributes, and reduce program risks.
What we found - Some people found it difficult to choose the right attribute for their situation, especially when the attribute involved a salary range or a required length of employment. - Some priority attributes didnโt clearly distinguish between candidates who had worked in Tasmania for different lengths of time. - The Gold Pass requirement didnโt always reflect genuine commitment, job security, or the likelihood of longโterm settlement. At times, it rewarded shortโterm or insecure work arrangements over applicants who had demonstrated a much stronger and more sustained contribution. - The policy guidance in the โAdditional information, exclusions and definitionsโ section of the website needed more detail.
Key changes we have made: - Clearer, easier to understand priority attribute wording. - Revised scoring of priority attributes to better recognise longer contribution to Tasmania. - Greater differentiation in points available according to duration of employment. - Updated policy guidance for leave periods and breaks between jobs. - The TSE Gold priority attribute updated to require at least 30 hours per week in at least one job to qualify. - Income attributes updated to Australian median and average earnings and the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (the Priority Income Level of $57,000/year or $28.85/hour has not been changed). - Additional caveats on recognising employment matching skills assessments or study for massage therapist and motor mechanics / service technicians. - The service fee to apply for nomination has increased to $387 ($425.70 including GST). There remains no charge to submit a Registration of Interest.
Candidates who have submitted an ROI in the last six months may wish to withdraw it and submit a new one, as the changes to priority attribute ranking criteria may significantly improve chances of selection for many people.
If you'd like to compare scores under the old and new settings, the 2025-26 priority attributes and scores can be found here.
Important: The domain name to access the Migration Tasmania Application Gateway portal to submit ROIs and lodge nomination applications has changed. If you have bookmarked the site, please update your bookmark to https://apply.migration.tas.gov.au.
Note that the Application Gateway will not be available until 17 August 2026.
Subclass 491 Overseas Skilled Occupation Profiles - Invitation Only Pathway
No invitations planned for 2026-27. This pathway allows overseas individuals to be nominated by Tasmania where they do not have a job in Tasmania but have skills and experience that would make them readily employable in key areas of need.
As the Australian Government has announced that it will be prioritising visa processing for applicants in Australia, Migration Tasmania will not issuing invitations in this pathway this program year.
Overseas health and teaching professionals who gain employment with a Tasmanian health provider or school will still be eligible for nomination for a subclass 190 Skilled Nominated visa in the Overseas Applicant - Health or Education Sector Job Offer) Pathway.

Trends and Patterns in S56 Requests
Priority occupations (Registered Nurses and General Practitioners) continue to receive expedited processing. Three Registered Nurse grants were processed in approximately 2 months, with only one receiving an S56 request for Form 80 and character documents. The General Practitioner case received no S56 requests and was granted in 2 months 19 days despite the application never moving to 'processing' status.
Non-priority occupations showed varied S56 patterns. The Electrician case received an S56 for partner's previous name documentation after 4 months 15 days. The Metal Fabricator received an HIV medical request just one day before grant. The Civil Engineer (491 NSW) received a police clearance request approximately 4 months after lodgement.
Notably, the Victorian General Practitioner applicant submitted Form 80 at lodgement to prevent potential S56 requests, which appears to have been effective. The applicant also noted that 189 and 190 processing times for General Practitioners were similar, with only 9 days difference between the two visa types.

๐ฃ New Visa Processing Time
The visa processing priority specified in Ministerial Direction 119 is now implemented and fully reflected in the calculations on SmartVisaGuide. The two key updates are:
๐ Important: The implementation required reallocation of underlying sample size/composition (from direction 105 to 119) , so it will take up to a month or so, for the August grants to come in as per the new direction, and for the visa processing times shown on SmartVisaGuide to stabilize and meaningfully reflect the underlying patterns.
