Trends and Patterns in S56 Requests

The majority of grants reported today were direct grants with no S56 requests. Only one case (TAS 190 Enrolled Nurse) received an S56 on 12 June 2026 requesting correct AFP documentation and evidence of regional residency to support the claimed 5 points for regional study. The applicant responded on 15 June 2026 and received the grant on 22 July 2026.

Priority Occupation Processing: The Enrolled Nurse (priority occupation) case showed a processing time of approximately 5 months despite the S56 request, which is consistent with expedited processing for health occupations under Ministerial Direction 105. The Physiotherapist (also priority) received a direct grant in approximately 1.5 months.

Non-Priority Occupation Processing: Social Worker, Community Worker, and Painting Trades Worker cases all showed processing times of approximately 3 months with direct grants and no S56 requests.

State Patterns: NSW and WA grants were all direct grants. The single TAS grant involved an S56 request for documentation verification.

Trends and Patterns in S56 Requests

S56 requests on 22 July 2026 predominantly involved medical examinations and police clearance certificates. Several applicants received multiple S56 requests throughout their processing journey, particularly for remedicals when initial checks expired after 12 months. Common S56 requests included:

  • Medical examinations and remedicals: Most frequent request type, particularly for applications lodged 12+ months prior
  • Police clearance certificates: AFP and PCC renewals when documents exceeded 12-month validity
  • Employment verification: Work reference letters and payslips
  • Relationship evidence: For partner/dependent applications
  • Specific vaccinations: Polio vaccine requirements

Priority occupations (Health and Teaching) demonstrated faster processing times. Secondary Teachers and Registered Nurses received grants within 7-8 months, while non-priority occupations experienced processing times ranging from 12-17 months. Several applicants proactively renewed their AFP and PCC documents before the 12-month expiry to avoid S56 requests.

Direct grants (no S56) were reported for Chemical Engineer (189), Painter (190), Business Analyst (190 TAS), and RN NEC (190 VIC), indicating streamlined processing for certain cases.

S56 Trends

Subclass State Location Occupation Lodge Date S56 Date Detail
190 ONSHORE 13 Apr 2026 21 Jul 2026 Consent Form for Exchange Criminal Record with New Zealand

Trends and Patterns in S56 Requests

The S56 requests observed today show a diverse range of document requirements. Medical requests (including remedicals) remain the most common S56 type, appearing in three cases (TAS190 Motor Mechanic, TAS190 Chef, and SA491 Registered Nurse). One case involved relationship evidence (WA190 Cabinet Maker), while another required general document submission (ACT190 Information and Organisation Professionals nec). A unique request was noted for consent to exchange criminal records with New Zealand for an onshore 190 applicant who lodged in April 2026.

Priority occupations (Health) continue to demonstrate expedited processing times. The 189 Registered Nurse grants were processed in approximately 1.4 months, while the 491 SA Registered Nurse (Aged Care) was processed in approximately 5.2 months. The 189 Social Worker grant was also processed quickly at 1.4 months.

Non-priority occupations show more varied processing times. The VIC190 Carpenter (3.4 months), TAS190 Enrolled Nurse (3.3 months), and TAS190 Motor Mechanic (3.5 months) all demonstrated relatively swift processing. However, the ACT190 Information and Organisation Professionals nec case took significantly longer at approximately 16.8 months, likely due to the S56 request in May 2026.

Direct grants (without S56 requests) were common among priority occupations, with three 189 health professionals receiving direct grants. Several trade occupations also received direct grants, including the VIC190 Carpenter.

Key Observations

Priority Occupation Processing: Health and Teaching occupations continue to demonstrate expedited processing under Ministerial Direction 105. Multiple Secondary School Teachers and Registered Nurses received grants within 1-2 months of lodgement (June to July 2026), with most being direct grants requiring no S56 requests.

Non-Priority Occupation Processing: Non-priority occupations show significantly longer processing times. Civil Engineer (WA 190) took 7 months, Urban Regional Planner (WA 190) took 14 months, and Chef applications ranged from 14-18 months from lodgement to grant.

S56 Request Patterns: S56 requests for non-priority occupations typically occurred between 4-7 months after lodgement. Common requests included medicals/remedicals, overseas police clearance certificates, and passport updates. Priority occupations largely avoided S56 requests, receiving direct grants.

State Performance: WA 190 applications featured prominently in today's grants across various occupations. Tasmania processed both 190 and 491 applications efficiently, with the TAS 190 Social Worker receiving a direct grant within 3 months.

News and Updates

Subclass 191 visa grants are being processed today. This permanent visa is available to holders of subclass 491 and 494 visas who have met their residence and income requirements.

S56 Trends

No new S56 requests were reported for 15 July 2026.

Trends and Patterns in S56 Requests

The majority of S56 requests across all subclasses involved medical examinations or remedicals, particularly for applications lodged in early 2025. Several cases also required police clearance certificates (Indian PCC, AFP, NZ Criminal Record Check) and employment documentation (references, bank statements, employment history). One unique request involved ATO Debt Clearance Proof for a Subclass 189 Carpenter.

Visa Processing Times varied significantly: - Priority occupations (Health Promotion Officer) received grants in approximately 3.5 months - Non-priority occupations ranged from 7-8 months for Subclass 189 to 16-17 months for Subclass 190 and up to 21 months for Subclass 491

Tasmania dominated the 190 grants reported today, with multiple Chef, Accountant, and Engineering occupations receiving grants after 15-17 months processing time. Victoria also showed activity across Software Engineers and Health occupations. The single WA491 grant took the longest at nearly 21 months, with multiple S56 requests throughout the process.

S56 Trends

No S56 requests were reported for 14 July 2026.

Invitation Activity

No invitation round data was reported for 14 July 2026.

Trends and Patterns

Priority Occupations: Health and Teaching occupations continue to demonstrate expedited processing times. Registered Nurses (Critical Care, Aged Care, NEC) and Primary School Teachers lodged in March-June 2026 received grants within 1-4 months. This aligns with Ministerial Direction 105 prioritisation.

Non-Priority Occupations: Processing times for non-priority occupations varied significantly. Subclass 189 applications for Multimedia Specialist, Food Technologist, and Painter lodged in November 2025 took approximately 8 months to process. Non-priority 190 applications (Social Worker, Welder) lodged in March 2026 processed in approximately 4 months.

Points Distribution: Subclass 189 grants ranged from 80-95 points. The 85-point threshold appears common for health professionals, while 95 points were observed for Food Technologist and Multimedia Specialist. Subclass 190 grants were at 85 points for both Social Worker and Welder.

Direct Grants: Several applicants received direct grants without S56 requests, particularly in health occupations. The Food Technologist case explicitly noted a direct grant.

State Activity: NSW and QLD issued 190 grants for both priority and non-priority occupations. ACT granted a 190 visa for Primary School Teacher.

Trends and Patterns in S56 Requests

The S56 activity for 10 July 2026 was minimal, with only one reported request. This S56 was issued for a Tasmania 190 application lodged in November 2025, requesting recent pay slips and bank statements. The request was issued just two days before the grant, suggesting final verification of employment and financial circumstances.

Three out of four grants reported today were for priority health occupations (Enrolled Nurse and Registered Nurse), with visa processing times ranging from approximately 4 to 7.5 months. The non-priority occupation (CPM) also processed within a similar timeframe of approximately 4 months. Tasmania dominated the grant activity with three grants, while Victoria issued one grant.

One applicant reported a direct grant without any S56 requests, while S56 status for two other grants remains unknown as this information was not shared.

Invitation Activity

No invitation round data was reported for this period.

Trends and Patterns in S56 Requests

The most common S56 requests on 09 July 2026 involved Polio vaccination certificates, appearing in multiple cases across different states and occupations. This suggests a systematic review by DHA for compliance with health requirements. AFP checks and remedicals were also requested, particularly for applications lodged in late 2025 and early 2026.

For priority occupations (Registered Nurses and Physiotherapist), visa processing times were notably faster. Two Registered Nurse applications showed processing times of approximately 1 month (TAS 190) and 1 month (189), while the Physiotherapist received a grant in approximately 6 months. These expedited timelines align with Ministerial Direction 105 prioritisation for Health occupations.

For non-priority occupations, processing times varied significantly. Applications lodged in 2024 and early 2025 experienced processing times exceeding 12 months, with some WA 190 applications taking up to 22 months. The Conference and Event Organiser case demonstrated that escalation to local ministers and the Ombudsman may have contributed to resolution after extended delays.

State-specific observations: WA 190 applications showed longer processing times compared to other states, with multiple S56 requests issued. NSW and VIC 190 applications demonstrated more moderate processing times ranging from 4 to 16 months.

491 Onshore Mechanical Engineer Jan 2025 08 Jul 2026 Medical (2nd S56, 1st May 2026 PCC)

Trends and Patterns in S56 Requests

S56 requests continue to be issued across all visa subclasses. For subclass 189, S56 requests were minimal with only two cases reporting requests (Biotechnologist and Social Worker with commencement email). The majority of 189 grants were direct grants with processing times of approximately 7-8 months.

For subclass 190, S56 activity was limited. Priority occupations (Early Childhood Teachers, Enrolled Nurses, Special Needs Teachers, Hospital Pharmacist, Registered Nurses) received grants within 4-5 months, with most being direct grants. Non-priority occupations showed longer processing times, particularly for applications lodged in 2025.

Subclass 491 continues to show the longest processing times, with one case taking 2 years (ICT Business Analyst lodged July 2024). Multiple S56 requests are common for 491 visas, with Medical and PCC being the most frequent requests.

The pattern indicates that priority occupations (Health and Teaching) receive significantly faster processing compared to non-priority occupations across all subclasses. Direct grants remain common for straightforward cases with complete documentation.

ACT Canberra Matrix Update

Ahead of the first invitation round of the 2026โ€“27 financial year, ACT Migration will launch a new online portal for Canberra Matrix submissions and ACT nomination applications.

The portal is currently scheduled to go live in the week starting 27 July 2026. To support the transition, the existing portal will be unavailable from the week commencing 13 July 2026.

The new portal is designed to modernise the application process and improve the experience for both applicants and migration agents. Further information, including instructions for creating accounts and accessing existing applications, will be published closer to the launch date.

Canberra Matrix submissions can continue to be lodged through the existing portal until 12 July 2026. After that, new Canberra Matrix submissions can be lodged using the new portal when it is launched.

Benefits of the new portal

The updated portal includes several improvements for applicants and migration agents: - Enhanced security through multi-factor authentication. - Ability to edit and withdraw Canberra Matrix submissions as circumstances change. - Live application status updates. - Improved usability, including better mobile device accessibility. - Stronger program integrity measures to reduce the impact of non-genuine expressions of interest on invitation rounds. These changes aim to make the application process simpler, more transparent and more secure.

Important program changes

The introduction of the new portal requires several updates to current program settings. The ACT Nomination Guidelines will be updated ahead of launch to reflect these changes.

Updated fee structure

From the 2026-27 financial year, the total cost of ACT nomination will be $350 (exclusive of GST), consisting of: - $25 (exclusive of GST) for a Canberra Matrix submission. - $325 (exclusive of GST) for an ACT nomination application. The total fee may be higher depending on the number of Canberra Matrix submissions you lodge.

Canberra Matrix validity

Canberra Matrix submissions will continue to be valid for six months. Applicants can extend validity to a maximum of 12 months by updating their Canberra Matrix before it expires.

There is no fee to edit a Canberra Matrix. However, any edit will be treated as a new submission for assessment and ranking purposes.

Before making an edit, applicants must be able to demonstrate that all claims continue to meet the ACT Nomination Guidelines at the date the Canberra Matrix is updated, even if your point claims do not change.

Where ranking is required between applicants with the same score, Canberra Matrix submissions will be ranked based on the date last updated, rather than the date originally submitted.

Existing Canberra Matrix submissions

All existing Canberra Matrix submissions will be automatically transferred to the new portal. Applicants and migration agents will not need to submit a new Canberra Matrix. To access transferred submissions, users must create a new account using the same email address that was used for the original Canberra Matrix submission.

Please note: - Existing submissions may take up to one week after the portal launch to appear in the new system. - Existing Canberra Matrix submissions transferred from the old portal cannot be edited in the new portal. - Existing submissions will remain valid and may be withdrawn if required.

Next steps

Additional information will be published on the ACT Migration website as it becomes available. Approximately one week before launch, ACT Migration will email recent applicants and migration agents with further information, including step-by-step instructions for accessing and using the new portal.

For the latest updates, please continue to monitor the ACT Migration website. Updated 07 July 2026.
