Trends and Patterns in S56 Requests
The day saw a cluster of S56 requests for subclass 491 applications lodged between March and April 2024. Medical requests dominated the S56 activity, with all five reported cases requiring medical examinations. Additional documentation requests included AFP checks, bank statements, tax documents, and police clearance certificates. The pattern suggests DHA is actively processing 491 applications from the March-April 2024 cohort, with medical clearances being a key checkpoint before finalisation.
Visa Processing Observations
Subclass 189: Two direct grants were reported for Civil Engineering occupations (Civil Engineer and Civil Engineering Draftsperson), both lodged in December 2024 and granted in November 2025. Processing time was approximately 10-11 months. Both applicants were onshore with 75-90 points.
Subclass 190 NSW: Two grants were reported for offshore applicants in Civil Engineer and QA Manager occupations. Processing times ranged from 15-16 months (May-July 2024 lodgements to November 2025 grants). Both cases received S56 requests for medicals in late October 2025, shortly before grant.
Activity levels were notably quiet for the day, with community members commenting on the low volume of grants. One observation noted that DHA may need to accelerate processing in the January-April 2026 window to meet planning levels.

Super quiet today ! At this rate, they are going to have to grant a lot in Jan-April window to fully utilise the planning levels.
I think they don't intend to fully utilise the planning levels this year at all. Dutton's soul has entered Burke's body....Labor government will keep NOM tight.
How does granting onshore visas affect NOM.
Historically, have there been instances where full planning levels werenโt utilised?
Only during Covid, I believe
@biotechy do you understand what is happening here? At this rate I dont know what to even expect any more.. with Dec approaching (and another slowdown till new years off course) it seems like Nov should be a grant month..?
thats what i am saying that they will need to speed up from Jan quite abit to fully use FY planning levels, since they have been bit slow so far. Dont stress mate, you are not too far now. Hard part is over.
Yeah this is what I have been thinking for the past six months๐. With the processing times getting longer and 2023 abandoned again I am not so sure is it to come this year still. Do you see any pattern here or are you just as suprised at how it goes? I thought 2k applications that are left for 2023 would be cleared by year end. Even with the priority processeng of 24/25 but if they go and issue non priority for 24 not 23 ready tp grant applications i am seriously lost
