UNOFFICIAL (to be confirmed) News from Migration Institute of Australia (MIA) conference in Perth WA last Friday: Points test for subclass 189, 190 and 491 is expected to change in March 2027. DHA representatives were present at this conference. Reforms will look at Education, Work Experience and Age points. No more information available.

Seeing a lot of pending Offshore NT 491 nomination applications being refused today despite all documents being accepted. Here is a refusal excerpt: "This application has not been approved, for the reason: Thank you for your application for Northern Territory (NT) Government Nomination. The NT Government has very limited places for nomination each year, as such a highly competitive assessment process has been applied. Having carefully assessed all information and evidence provided, we regret to inform you that this application is unsuccessful. As outlined on our website, offshore applicants are required to demonstrate a genuine commitment to living and working in the Northern Territory on a long-term basis. Based on the information you provided, this has not been demonstrated. In comparison to other applicants, this application does not meet the standard required for nomination. Please note this decision is final and no further correspondence will be entered into. You may apply again in a future program year should your circumstances change."
It seems oversubscription is the actual reason for these refusals, and "lack of commitment" is a convenient reason given to delineate those accepted from those refused.
Note: NT charges a $300 fee upfront for all applications. This fee is non-refundable and must be paid when you submit your application through the The Northern Territory Government portal.
