Trends and Patterns

Visa Processing Times:

Subclass 189 grants for Electrical Engineers (non-priority occupation) were processed in approximately 10-11 months, demonstrating relatively swift processing for onshore applicants with no S56 requests.

For Subclass 190 and 491 visas, processing times ranged from 10 to 23 months. The majority of grants were for applications lodged in late December 2023 through January 2024, with processing times of approximately 11 months. All offshore applicants received S56 requests, predominantly for remedicals and employment evidence.

S56 Request Patterns:

All offshore 190 and 491 grant recipients reported S56 requests, issued primarily in late September to mid-October 2025. Common S56 requests included: - Remedicals (most frequent) - Employment evidence verification - Functional English evidence for secondary applicants - Updated passports - Police Clearance Certificates (PCC) - Form 80

The time between S56 request and grant ranged from approximately 1 to 2 months, with most grants issued within 5-6 weeks of S56 submission.

Occupation and State Distribution:

NSW dominated the grant activity with 7 grants (5 for 491, 2 for 190). Software Engineers and Marketing Specialists were the most common occupations among 491 grants. Victoria and South Australia each had one 491 grant. Two onshore 189 grants were issued for Electrical Engineers.

Family sizes varied, with several families of 4 receiving grants, indicating that family composition did not significantly delay processing.

📊 This report represents crowdsourced data and is a subset of total visa activity. Only the Department of Home Affairs has complete grant data.

Is Form 80 usually required when applying for the 190/189 visa? I know it's optional and not mentioned in the SVG document checklist, but I’ve seen people being asked to submit it via an S56 request. My question is whether it's better to submit it only when asked (since it’s quite lengthy and detailed), or should I submit it upfront? Also, do both my spouse and I need to submit it, or just the primary applicant? @gregormendel @biotechy
