Trends and Patterns in S56 Requests

Priority occupations (Registered Nurses and General Practitioners) continue to receive expedited processing. Three Registered Nurse grants were processed in approximately 2 months, with only one receiving an S56 request for Form 80 and character documents. The General Practitioner case received no S56 requests and was granted in 2 months 19 days despite the application never moving to 'processing' status.

Non-priority occupations showed varied S56 patterns. The Electrician case received an S56 for partner's previous name documentation after 4 months 15 days. The Metal Fabricator received an HIV medical request just one day before grant. The Civil Engineer (491 NSW) received a police clearance request approximately 4 months after lodgement.

Notably, the Victorian General Practitioner applicant submitted Form 80 at lodgement to prevent potential S56 requests, which appears to have been effective. The applicant also noted that 189 and 190 processing times for General Practitioners were similar, with only 9 days difference between the two visa types.

Our immi account said 'received' from the day we lodged until the day it was granted - form 80 was submitted at lodgement to ward off potential s56 request - we submitted nomination application and visa lodgement with as much evidence as we had, more than they strictly needed, to prevent delays/ s56 request - we received a 189 invitation on 4th June, 2.5 weeks after we lodged our 190 application. I was gutted as 189s are granted quicker on average. But our GP friends who lodged for 189 from the same 4th June invitation round got their 189 grant only 9 days earlier than our 190 grant. So at least for GPs, there doesn't seem to be much of a time difference between the 2 visas! - just an FYI: you can apply for interim Medicare (which covers you the same as general Medicare) as soon as you've lodged your 190, you don't have to wait for a grant!
