Trends and Patterns
Visa Processing Times: The grants reported today show processing times ranging from approximately 14 to 16 months for subclass 190 and 491 visas lodged between February and April 2025. Non-priority occupations (Accountant, Urban Planner, Motor Mechanic, Cook, Information & Organisation Professional NEC) are experiencing processing times of 14-16 months. Three cases received direct grants without S56 requests, while three cases received S56 requests for either medicals or Form 80.
S56 Request Patterns: S56 requests observed include medical examinations (remedicals) and Form 80 requests. The timing of S56 requests varied from 2.5 months to 14 months after visa lodgement. Applicants who proactively renewed AFP checks, PCCs, and vaccinations (as seen in the SA 190 case) still received direct grants, suggesting proactive document updates may support smoother processing.
State Activity: WA and TAS issued direct grants for 190 visas without S56 requests. NSW issued grants for both 190 and 491 visas, with one case requiring Form 80 and another requiring remedicals. SA issued a 491 full invite after requesting additional documentation (spouse's passport and tax returns) during the nomination stage. The SA 491 case demonstrates the state's requirement for complete documentation before issuing nomination approval.
Family Composition: Grants included single applicants, couples, and families of three. One WA 190 case added a newborn during processing, with acknowledgment and bridging visa issued approximately 3 months after the addition.
