Came to Australia (Sydney) in 2017 (at age 29) to study ministry studies (Christianity). 2017-2019 2020-2022 - Master's of counselling 2023-2023 - Casual counsellor in a hospital 2023-current - Full-time counsellor and got a positive skills assessment for 1 year only in July 2024. Then NSW removes counsellors from their list. January 2025 (on 485 expiring February 2026) I started looking and interviewing for jobs in Victoria but no luck. June 2025, I joined a company that has an office in ACT. July 2025, I relocate to the ACT (faith). The rule with the ACT is that you work and live here for 3 months before submitting EOI. My partner is offshore so, he puts through an EOI for ACT in September, he gets invited but nomination is rejected because he added me and claimed points from me but am onshore (you both have to be offshore). So we waited for my invite as the rule doesn't apply for onshore applicants. S56 Notes S56 Request: PCC and Partner Skills assessment (My PCC was from Dec, 25 but they requested a new one. Partner’s skills assessment was uploaded in a different folder; I just had to reupload it) submitted on 01 March 2026

Alhamdulillah, 491 granted today. Very thankful for how far I have come. A few more years to permanent residency now, and inshaAllah I will continue studying further in the field I am truly passionate about. It took me 9.5 years to reach this stage. It has been a long journey with a lot of lessons, patience, setbacks, and growth. I always tried to do things the right way, but looking back, the biggest thing I lacked was proper planning. If anyone has followed my story, my biggest advice is this: Time is everything. Make decisions on time. Do not rely blindly on states. Strategise your visa properly and always have a Plan B. Things can change very quickly in Australia. Policies change, state priorities change, occupations move, and opportunities can close before you realise it. So do not waste time, do not get too comfortable, and do not assume things will work out on their own. Plan early, stay informed, keep improving yourself, and move with purpose. One good decision at the right time can save you years. To everyone still on the journey, stay patient and stay focused. Delays are not the end. Keep pushing forward and trust that your time will come too.
