Trends and Patterns in S56 Requests
Priority occupations (Teaching and Health) continue to demonstrate expedited processing. The Secondary School Teacher received a grant in approximately 2 months, while the Registered Nurse NEC and Early Childhood Teacher received grants in approximately 5 months. These processing times are significantly faster than non-priority occupations.
For non-priority occupations, visa processing times varied considerably. The Engineering Technologist (VIC 190) took approximately 15 months, while the Materials Engineer (NT 491) took approximately 16 months. The Computer Network and System Engineer (SA 491) received a direct grant in approximately 4 months, and the Chef (WA 491) took approximately 12 months.
S56 requests remain common across all visa subclasses. Medical requests and remedicals continue to be the most frequent S56 type, followed by requests for Form 80, police clearance certificates, and additional employment documentation. Multiple S56 requests (as seen with the Carpenter case receiving 3 separate requests) can extend processing times significantly. Health Undertaking Form 815 requests appear to be issued when medical conditions require ongoing monitoring or treatment commitments.
Direct grants without S56 requests were reported for two 491 cases (SA and WA), suggesting that complete and accurate documentation at lodgement can facilitate faster processing.
