NSW Program Updates NSW Government has received an interim allocation for the 2025-26 Skilled Migration Program from The Department of Home Affairs.
The NSW interim allocation includes:
- Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) – 200 places
- Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) – 180 places
Invitation Rounds for the Subclass 190 Visa
Next week we will be undertaking an invitation round for NSW nomination for the subclass 190 visa whilst we await the full allocation from Home Affairs. To ensure eligibility, we recommend keeping your SkillSelect EOI up to date and making sure that you can provide valid supporting evidence for all claims should your EOI be selected.
NSW Priority Sectors
NSW Government is working with the Australian Government to deliver shared migration priorities through the NSW State Migration Plan. Delivering priorities such as boosting the care economy and building more homes requires the attraction and retention of skilled workers. The NSW State Migration Plan will build on existing programs to support successful outcomes for skilled migrants in NSW.
The NSW Priority Sectors are: Construction (infrastructure and housing), Net Zero and Energy Transition, Care and Support Economy, Digital and Cyber, Agriculture and Agrifood, and Advanced Manufacturing.
Published Skills Lists
NSW has published NSW Skills Lists for the 2025-26 program year. The lists are provided at the ANZSCO unit group level, with separate lists for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and the Skilled Work Regional visa (subclass 491).
All occupations within an identified unit group that are eligible for the respective visa are eligible for an invitation for NSW nomination. Occupations that do not appear on the NSW Skills Lists will not be considered for an invitation for NSW nomination.
Update on the Subclass 491 Visa Nominations
Application for the Subclass 491 visa (all Pathways) are closed to new applications at this stage.
491 Visa – Time to Relocate to Regional + Address Evidence While Offshore?
Hi everyone,
I lodged my 491 visa in December 2023, and received an s56 request in October 2023 for remedicals, which has since been cleared. I'm currently on a Bridging Visa A and living in a non-regional area for work reasons.
As you know, once the 491 visa is granted, the following conditions will apply:
- 8578 – Must notify of certain changes
- 8579 – Must live, work or study only in a designated regional area
- 8580 – Must provide evidence of residential addresses if requested
- 8581 – Must attend an interview if requested
I have a couple of questions I hope someone can help with:
- After the visa is granted, how much time is given to relocate to a regional area to comply with condition 8579? Is there a grace period, or is the expectation to move immediately?

We have offshore travel planned for 2-3 months soon after the visa grant. To save on rent during that time, we’re planning to store our belongings at a friend’s place (which is in a regional area).

What kind of address evidence does Home Affairs accept to show we are residing in a regional area? Would temporary storage at a friend’s place be sufficient?
- Do we need to show lease agreements, utility bills, or anything else to satisfy condition 8580?
Appreciate any guidance from others who have been through this or have insights.
