@gregormendel- Hi. I heard on the news yesterday that some works in Australia are not preferred to be done by Australians and so they need migrants to do that work and that's the reason they have been taking lots of migrants from a long time and current housing crisis and other factors have led to making some occupations priority and prioritize onshore to avoid more influx of migrants. Yesterday there was news that Pauline Hanson suggested to completely ban immigration from those 'not safe to travel ' countries which are around 23 red listed. It was told on the news that Albanese govt is considering the same but not sure. Is there any news about this becoming a reality immediately or soon? News and Updates
NT 491 Offshore Nomination Refusals: Multiple pending offshore NT 491 nomination applications were refused on 17 August 2026 despite all documents being accepted. The official refusal reason cited was failure to demonstrate "genuine commitment to living and working in the Northern Territory on a long-term basis." However, oversubscription appears to be the underlying factor, with the NT Government applying a highly competitive assessment process due to limited nomination places. The decision is final with no appeal process. NT charges a non-refundable $300 application fee upfront.
Points Test Reform Expected March 2027 (UNOFFICIAL - to be confirmed): Information shared at the Migration Institute of Australia (MIA) conference in Perth WA indicates that the points test for subclasses 189, 190, and 491 is expected to change in March 2027. DHA representatives were present at the conference. Reforms will focus on Education, Work Experience, and Age points. Further details are not yet available.
