Hi everyone, I need some advice about my newborn’s visa...
@js25 (2H ago| Updated 2H ago)Hi everyone, I need some advice about my newborn’s visa situation.
I was granted my 190 permanent residency visa on 14 September 2025, but my baby was born a few days earlier on 10 September 2025, when I was still on a 485 visa.
Because she was born before my PR was granted, I wasn’t able to include her in the 190 application. I haven’t registered her birth yet, and I also haven’t added her to my visa application.
I have a few questions I’m hoping someone might help with: 1. What is my baby’s visa status right now? 2. What do I do to make her our dependent on 190? Do I need to lodge a child visa (subclass 802) for her so she can get permanent residency like me? 3. Do I need to inform DOHA? What’s the correct process to notify the DOHA about her birth? 4. In the meantime, is my baby considered to be holding the same visa I had at the time of her birth (subclass 485)?
Any advice or experience from others who have been through a similar situation would be much appreciated 🙏

Hi @js25,
Firstly, please get legal advice from a lawyer. My answers to your questions are from my experience.
- What is my baby’s visa status right now? I think she should have 485 visa, but since you are granted 190. I am NOT sure
- What do I do to make her our dependent on 190? Do I need to lodge a child visa (subclass 802) for her so she can get permanent residency like me? From what I know, you cannot add a dependent once a visa application is finalised. I think you would need to lodge a 802 visa. Please talk to a lawyer. They might have a better route.
- Do I need to inform DOHA? What’s the correct process to notify the DOHA about her birth? You need to inform the DOHA about your newborn as soon as possible. I used this form to add my newborn daughter to my 485 visa. Again, please talk to a lawyer.
- In the meantime, is my baby considered to be holding the same visa I had at the time of her birth (subclass 485)? Maybe.
