Tasmania Skilled Migration - State Nomination Program Update (July 2022)

The 2022-23 Tasmania Skilled Migration State Nomination Program is expected to open soon with a new set of features, requirements and processes.
The Tasmanian Government is currently awaiting confirmation from the Australian Federal Government on the the 2022-23 nomination allocation. Once the confirmation is received, the program will open for all candidates.
Key features of the new program will include:
For Graduates:
- No course or occupation restrictions or mandatory employment requirements
- Permanent pathway for PhD students
For Skilled Workers
- An expanded list of eligible occupations and employment options for 190 visa nomination
- No occupation requirements for subclass 491
- Inclusion of part time work experience for the purposes of meeting work experience requirement
- Subcontractors with a related skills assessment included in skilled employment pathway
For Business Operators
- Extension of qualifying business operation time from six to twelve months for businesses which commenced after 15 April 2022
- New personal business income requirement, set at a minimum of 80% of Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT)
For Long Term Residents
- ๐ A new nomination pathway for candidates who have lived in Tasmania for an extended period of time, and established themselves in employment or business operations
- Qualifying residence period of atleast 3 years for subclass 190 visa nomination and 2 years for the subclass 491 visa nomination
- Business operators will be eligible for subclass 190 visa nomination if they have lived in Tasmania for 2 years and ran their eligible business successfully for 2 years
For Overseas Candidates
- No occupation restrictions where the candidate has a job offer
- Increased number of invitations for nomination from SkillSelect where candidates have skills needed by Tasmanian businesses
๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ For all Candidates
- Simplified eligibility requirements
- Invitation only -> candidates will be able to register expression of interest in the Migration Tasmania Gateway if they meet the minimum eligibility requirements, and the most competitive will be able to apply for nomination
- More clearly defined exclusions and exceptions regarding nature of employment, business, and location of dependents
There will be a clear set of published priority attributes, describing the applicant characterstics required, to be competitive. Invitations will be issued on the basis of candidates meeting the competitiveness threshold.
These attributes include:
- nature, level and duration of Tasmanian studies
- English language ability
- nature, duration and industry of employment
- length of residence in Tasmania
- skilled employment in sectors critical to Tasmanian economy and industry
- connections between study, skills assessment and employment
- salary compensation compared to Australian pay scales
- completion of work placements and/or experience related to area of study
- level of business investment, turnover and local employment
- location, employment, skills and length of residence of applicant's dependants
More details on the new requirements and processes, as well as the opening date for registrations of Expression of Interest (EOI) will be published on the Migration Tasmania website as well as on our blog in coming weeks.
Note: Migration Tasmania will continue to process applications lodged in 2021-22 and will record nominations in SkillSelect for successful applicants after the 2022-23 program quota is received.
