Canada Immigration Levels for 2023-2025: Plans to welcome upto 500,000 immigrants per year

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Canada's Immigration Minister Sean Fraser has announced a record immigration target level of 500,000 by year 2025.

In 2021, Canada welcomed the most immigrants in a single year in its history, with 405,999 permanent residents, representing an increase of 120% from 2020.

Why Immigration is Important to Canada ?

Immigration is critical to Canadaโ€™s economic growth, and is key to supporting economic recovery:

  • Immigration accounts for as much as 90% of labour force growth in Canada and approximately 75% of population growth.
  • International students make a significant contribution to the Canadian economy, with some estimating they contributed $23.5 billion to Canadaโ€™s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2019.
  • Temporary and permanent residents are able to meet specific labour market needs in Canada, and make up relatively high proportions of the work force in some industrial sectors. In the future, more temporary and permanent residents are needed to address labour shortages and contribute to economic prosperity in Canada.

๐Ÿ Canada plans to welcome:

  • upto 465,000 new permanent residents in 2023 - up 4% from a previous target,
  • upto 485,000 new permanent residents in 2024, up 7.5% from a previous target, and
  • upto 500,000 permanents residents in 2025
