We offer a collection of tools, utilities and information on SmartVisaGuide to help you work out your subclass 189, 190 and 491 state nomination and visa options.
We would encourage you to read our Guide to Australian Permanent Residency to get an overview of the complete permanent residency process.
Here are some things you can do to get a better idea of your options and chances of success.
- ๐ Check the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) to find out which visa subclasses (189/190/491) you are eligible for, and whether you are a priority occupation.
- ๐ Check State Occupation Lists to find out which states offer subclass 190 and 491 nomination for your occupation. Alternatively, you can check this information directly on SmartVisaGuide.
- ๐งฎ Use our Points Calculator to calculate your total EOI points (add 5 points for Subclass 190 and 15 points for Subclass 491 to your calculated EOI score). Take a screenshot of the blue scorecard and keep it handy for future use.
- โ๏ธ Check the SkillSelect Occupation Backlog to see how many EOIs are SUBMITTED and waiting for invite at the same or higher points as you, for each subclass, as at the end of most recent month. Learn how to interpret SkillSelect data.
- ๐ฎ Check Recent State Nomination and Visa Grants (filter by occupation) to see how competitive your points score and profile is, compared to recent successful applicants.
- ๐ฃ Check more Invitation Rounds data for Subclass 189, WA Subclass 190/491 and ACT 190/491. This data is made available due to the fact that ACT and WA publish complete details of their invitation rounds (unlike other states).
If you follow the above steps, you will have a good baseline idea of your options and chances.
More Information
- For Subclass 189, only your total EOI points score matters, whereas for Subclass 190 and 491, individual states may, in addition to points score, consider candidates on the basis of occupation, partner skills, English score, work experience, salary etc.
- Do not ask which state should I apply?. Apply to all states where your occupation is eligible. You can check the state occupation lists here.
- Check which states require a Registration of Interest (ROI) in addition to an EOI here.
- Check our complete collection of tools and resources.
